Ecommerce Junkie (@EcommerceJunkie) has grown by leaps and bounds over the past year, accumulating more and more regular readers, establishing an active Twitter feed for our news headlines and engaging our audience on all issues relevant to e-commerce in the comments area of these posts. We don’t want to toot our own horn too much but thanks to you, Junkie has established itself as a leading source of ecommerce news.
However, we often receive emails from some of you wondering what other online resources you should be consulting for the best and most comprehensive e-commerce and e-tail news out there. Now, we hope you’ll always consider us your #1 option but in fact, there are quite a few helpful news sites and blogs that you can check out. Here are five that we recommend, along with a little information on each of them.
AuctionBytes - (@AuctionBytes)
Touted as the ‘Independent Trade Publication for Online Merchants’, AuctionBytes’ scope includes not only e-commerce, but online auctions as well. In addition to providing daily news on all things related to online retailing and auctions, the site also offers both daily and twice-monthly email newsletters with industry announcements and site reviews; a ‘Cool Tools’ section with data on virtual storefronts and auctions and book references; and online forums where users can chat, collaborate and share ideas.
InternetRetailer - (@IR_Magazine)
Internet Retailer stays true to its name, primarily covering news items pertaining to online merchants and the e-commerce operations of traditional big-box retailers. If you’re looking for specific news on a particular company, this is the first place to look. They’ll periodically cover studies and research on e-commerce and track the stock performances of e-commerce companies as well. Internet Retailer also releases an annual top 500 list of e-tailers, sells a number of e-commerce reference books and hosts a national conference for e-commerce professionals every year.
GetElastic.com - (@getelastic)
The GetElastic blog is maintained by e-commerce solutions provider Elastic Path Software and has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal as one of the web’s best entrepreneurial blogs. You’ll find much more technical insight and coverage here than on some of the other sites we’ve mentioned, which is great for ideas on new features and tools. There’s also a heavy dose of e-commerce marketing coverage to help kick-start ideas on how to best promote your site and increase brand awareness.
PracticalEcommerce - (@practicalecomm)
Practical Ecommerce originally started out as a printed magazine but has since evolved into an online-only resource with a ton of great features. You’ll find high-quality editorial content aimed to help smaller and mid-sized e-tailers succeed, as well as an expansive directory of thousands of vendors and e-commerce services. Practical Ecommerce also offers four different helpful podcasts and runs a companion site, Ecommerce Developer, designed for ecommerce programmers and designers.
Blog.shop.org - (@shoporg)
Shop.org is an arm of the National Retail Federation, the industry’s lobbying group in Washington. With such a large and powerful organization behind it, shop.org’s blog might be one of the most comprehensive sources of retailer and ecommerce information out there and it’s highly advisable that you join them to reap the full rewards of membership. The site offers research information and white papers on everything from marketing to merchandising to profitability and gives professionals the chance to network further through the Digital Retailing Group.
So there you have it! Leave us your thoughts and comments with sites/blogs that you recommend!
